Not a substitute for official warnings or emergency services
Stormward is a best-effort, supplemental alerting service. It is NOT a substitute for Wireless Emergency Alerts, the National Weather Service, NOAA Weather Radio, local emergency management, or 911. Always keep and rely on official warning sources for life-safety decisions.
No guaranteed delivery
Stormward depends on third-party systems it does not control, including the National Weather Service feed, email and push delivery, mobile devices and networks, and hosting providers. We do not and cannot guarantee that any alert will be delivered, delivered on time, or received. Alerts may be delayed, duplicated, missed, or fail entirely.
Who can use Stormward
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to create an account and use Stormward. By using the service, you confirm that you meet these requirements. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in access secure.
Warranty disclaimer
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and any warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Stormward and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, or for any injury, loss, or damage arising from a delayed, missed, or undelivered alert, or from reliance on the service. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
People you protect and emergency contacts
When you add a person to protect or an emergency contact, you confirm that you have the authority and any needed consent to provide that person's name, home location, and email, and to have Stormward contact them for safety purposes. You are responsible for the accuracy of that information and for having the right to share it. Anyone we email as an emergency contact can opt out at any time using the link in the message.
Text messages
Text alerts are part of the Pro plan and are off until a number is confirmed. You confirm your own number by entering it in the app and typing back the six-digit code we text you. A person you protect is texted once, asking them to reply YES, and is never texted again unless they do. Messages are transactional and safety related: a verification code, a one-time opt-in request, and hazard alerts for a place your account watches. We send no marketing texts.
Message frequency depends on the weather, so it varies. Msg and data rates may apply, and your carrier, not Stormward, sets those. Reply STOP to any Stormward message to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. An opted-out number is blocked permanently and can only be turned back on from that handset by texting START. Carriers and messaging providers may delay, filter, or fail to deliver a message, and text alerts carry the same no-guaranteed-delivery terms as every other channel above. Acceptable use
Use Stormward only for lawful, personal safety purposes. Do not add locations, people, or contacts you are not entitled to monitor or contact, and do not abuse the alerting or test features.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using Stormward and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms, is used abusively, or creates risk for others or for the service. Where appropriate, we will make a reasonable effort to notify you.
Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation
Paid plans are recurring subscriptions billed through Stripe at the price shown at checkout. Your subscription automatically renews for the same period (for example, annually) at the then-current price for your plan, and your payment method is charged at each renewal, until you cancel. You can cancel anytime through the customer portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period, and you keep access until then. Founding pricing stays at the rate you signed up at for as long as your subscription remains active. If something is not right, reply to your Stripe receipt and we will try to make it right.
Availability
Stormward is offered in the United States only. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product changes. We will revise the "last updated" date above, and your continued use of Stormward after a change means you accept the updated terms.
General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms are the entire agreement between you and Stormward about the service. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may assign ours to a successor, for example in connection with a sale of the business.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
